Home / Guides / Fiber vs cable, without the brochure
A 300 Mbps cable plan and a 300 Mbps fiber plan share a headline and almost nothing else.
Cable from Xfinity and Spectrum is a shared neighborhood node with coax into the home. Upload on cheaper tiers is often a fraction of download. Fiber from AT&T and Verizon Fios, and T-Mobile Fiber where it exists, sends the same speed back up.
Cable wins on footprint. If the building was wired years ago, coax is probably there and fiber might not be. Price is not a reliable signal either. A 5-year Xfinity promo can undercut fiber for years. Quote both at the address.
Pricing mentioned here is as of October 2026 and varies by address.
Agents check address-level availability, stack the promo that is live today, and look for a same-day or next-day install window when the provider has one.
